Specialists in Advanced Toy Laboratory Testing
Raw Material Testing

Children will thoroughly use their toys in ways that could expose them to harm from the substances that they are made from, such as putting them in their mouths. Pre-testing raw materials before they’re crafted into toys avoids costly reformulations, redesigns, and retesting; not to mention harm to children.

API offers RSL (Restricted substances list) screening services and toy testing to assure that your products comply with the latest REACH and EN 71 safety requirements. Tests are carried out for the full range of common toxic chemicals and elements, including phthalates, lead, mercury, and cadmium. Our laboratories are equipped to test raw materials to adhere to any and all global standards that you may require.

Electrical Testing

Kids today have the enjoyment of a vast range of educational and fun electrical and electronic toys which are either run from AC current or batteries. These include anything from talking books, through to games consoles, not to mention battery-operated toys like RC cars.

If their safety is to be guaranteed, electrical tests must be undertaken to avoid shocks and burns, and API offer standard tests adhering to all global standards for EE toys like 16 CFR 1505, EN 62115, and RoHS2. In addition we can check EE toys’ design, certifications, and adherence to all recognized global standards.

Flammability Testing

API tests your toys for compliance with a full range of flammability standards, notably ASTM F963 and EN 71-2 and their lists of flammable materials that are not permitted in toys, and, for instance, their tests to assure that flame spread rate and after flame time are acceptable. The purpose of this is to assure that toys making it to market cannot burn quickly enough that it’s impossible to escape harm quickly.

This testing will include any kind of material, such as fabrics, metals, or plastics that can conceivably burn. We understand that wearable toys, such as masks and wigs, carry a severe risk, as proximity to the body is a factor in assessing danger from flames. API’s laboratories in Asia and Europe are equipped to test toys’ adherence to any known global flammability standard.

Mechanical Testing

Mechanical testing from API helps you to protect children against physical harm caused by the use and form of toys, such as puncture, pinching, crushing, trapping, and cutting. For instance, toys may make it to market with no clear issues, only to be recalled because, when used in a non-intended way, they are able to cause injury to a child. Mechanical testing aims to eliminate this instance from happening.

Essentially, adherence to wide-ranging standards such as EN 71-1 and ASTM F963 will assure that toys are mechanically sound, and API’s laboratories are equipped to test for: Impact, strength, stability, small parts, compression, seams, and many more.
