Reminder: The Latest Electronic Toys Standards EN IEC 62115:2020 and The Amendment A11:2020

On May 31, 2021, the latest electric toys standards EN IEC 62115:2020 and the amendment A11:2020 were published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). The date of withdrawal of the current harmonized versions (EN 62115:2005/A12:2015) and the end of the presumption of conformity EC have been set for February 21, 2022.

Before the date of withdrawal of the current harmonized versions, EN 62115:2005/A12:2015 will continue to provide a presumption of conformity with the EU Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC.

Major changes between the current harmonized EN 62115:2005/A12:2015 and the new EN IEC 62115:2020 and the amendment A11:2020 include:

I. The scope covers the safety of electric toys taking power from any source, such as batteries, transformers, solar cells, and inductive connections.

II. Each test or assessment is carried out using either a preconditioned sample or a non-preconditioned sample, depending on whichever sample gives the most unfavorable result.

II. New instructions requirements for electric toys that can connect to Class I equipment.

IV. New requirements for electric toys using a USB connection as a power supply.

V. New warning requirements for button and coin batteries.

VI. Additional requirements for electric toys incorporating optical radiation sources are given in Annex E.

VII. Additional requirements for the safety of remote controls for electric ride-on toys are given in Annex J.

VII. The impact force of the spring hammer has been reduced from 0,7 J in the previous edition to 0,5 J in this standard. The number of impacts has also been reduced from 6 blows to 3 blows.

IX. Compliance of LED is checked by the technical data sheet of LEDs or by measurement of the output from an electric toy.
